Attachment & Relational Trauma
“I don’t know how to feel safe with others.”
“i can’t seem to get a handle on my anxiety”
“My relationships feel forced & empty.”
Sound familiar?
you’re not alone.
Every human being is wired for connection. From day one, we rely on our parents or caregivers to meet our most basic survival needs, and to create a safe, comfortable and loving environment where we can grow and thrive. When all of our developmental needs are met consistently from a young age, we have a foundation of security, trust in self and others, and resilience.
Life doesn’t always work like that. Sometimes, due to stress, illness, trauma, loss, or other environmental and systemic issues outside of our control, we don’t get everything we need. This can have an especially significant impact at a younger age, when we rely on others to help us make sense of the world around us. Without stability in early childhood, we have a shaky foundation of fear, anxiety, pain and a belief that we are undeserving or unable to have the love and safety of consistent relationships.
This foundation, whether stable or shaky, is carried with us long into adulthood. It impacts every impact of life. Relationships, phsyical and emotional health, education and financial stability can vary drastically based in part on the foundation of early experience.
